‘My son will ease sting of elimination’
‘Idols SA’ casualty sees silver lining
Thokozile Ndimande may be the first contestant to be axed from the Idols SA top 10, but seeing her son will sweeten her loss.
Ndimande from Soshanguve was booted out of the popular Mzansi Magic show on Sunday night after a tense standoff between her and Tee Xaba.
She later told Sowetan that she now looked forward to seeing her son, Tshego, who turns five tomorrow.
“I’m going to hug my son. I’m going to run to him and hold him for at least 30 minutes and take it in. I haven’t done it in so long and I’ve missed him. It’s been hard being away from him.
“It’s a silver lining that I will be spending his birthday with him,” she said.
She said her elimination pained her. “It hurts, but the competition is tight, it could have been any one of us. But it still kinda stings.”
Ndimande earned her fans through her rendition of Beyoncé’s Dangerously in Love.
“One of the lessons is that you need to get out of your comfort zone. I think I was in my comfort zone, especially with song choices.
“This has completely changed my focus. I have been stretched so much. I’ve done things I never imagined I could do. I never imagined I could do Dangerously in Love.
“I have a completely new respect for the stage. I’m proud of myself and I will continue to stretch myself going forward.”
Ndimande still plans to stay in music.
“I have a band now, I will do gigs on a different level. I’m much more considerate of all the factors involved in delivering a good performance. I’d love to act and do theatre, definitely more TV work.”
