Khoza did right, ANC’s beyond redemption
The resignation of Dr Makhosi Khoza from the “alien and corrupt ANC” must be applauded as a triumph of principle over material considerations
Her long-overdue resignation comes after myriad scandals, including the Nkandla debacle, the al-Bashir matter and state capture among others, which her ANC defended. Khoza must still be credited for finally acknowledging that the ANC, like its president, is beyond redemption. Supporting the ANC is tantamount to the erstwhile Bantustan leaders arguing that they were trying to fight apartheid from within.
As the National Party became one with institutionalised oppression, the ANC has become the party of corruption and is institutionalising the scourge through the state capture project. The only way to stop it is by its removal through the ballot box.
Makhosi Khoza is no heroine as she has been complicit in her party’s malfeasance but she needs to be applauded for finally doing the right thing. Her resignation will not undermine any reformist element within the ANC, as some argue.
The ANC has reached its sell-by date and needs to be substituted by a party that will transform the lives of the suffering masses by tackling poverty, unemployment and inequality. Looting the fiscus through corrupt state capture cannot be part of this equation.
The ANC must be consigned to the dustbin of history come 2019.
