He told wife of bad blood between him and a colleague
The murdered Duduza, Ekurhuleni, deputy principal had planned to take early retirement from the school three days before he was killed.
Mswati Nyembe, 56, had apparently shared with his family last week Friday that he was no longer comfortable working at Edalinceba Primary.
He had also told his wife that should something happen to him, questions should be directed at one of his colleagues.
Nyembe was shot at the entrance of the school office on Tuesday by three assailants who allegedly gained access to the school under the pretext of being electricians.
Speaking to Sowetan, his younger brother Siyabonga said everything was surreal and the family was finding it hard to accept his death.
“On Friday ... he told his wife Nonhlanhla that he wanted to resign as he was no longer comfortable at school,” Siyabonga said.
“He said he had only one enemy who is a colleague, and should something happen to him we have to confront the same colleague.
“He said it was work-related. Unfortunately, we can’t say anything further, the police will have to do their job.”
Sowetan understands that the family confronted the colleague about what Nyembe had said soon after his death but the colleague apparently denied that there was bad blood between them.
Yesterday, Nyembe’s home at Dunnottar, Nigel, was a hive of activity as family and friends came for prayer sessions.
“I last spoke to him last week on Wednesday and we had plans to meet this weekend. I can’t believe we are busy organising his funeral. We are planning to bury him on Saturday (tomorrow),” the brother said.
“The school had plans to hold a memorial service for him today (yesterday), unfortunately we could not allow that because there is no time.”
Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi urged police to prioritise the case so that the family could have closure.
Warrant Officer Tommy Tomlison said: “[A] detective [is] working on the case... we can’t say much now, we don’t want to jeopardise the case.”
