Tlale’s interns set for the bigger stage
It’s down to the wire for finalists
It’s down to the wire in The Intern by David Tlale. The last four standing wannabes, Keletso Moraba, Sam Mosala, Kuena Moshoeshoe and Cyla Gonsolves will face their fate on Wednesday in a glittering starstudded two-hour finale.
An upbeat Tlale shared that the live spectacular will feature amazing collections down the runway. There will also be surprise performances and a fabulous red carpet teeming with celebrities and fashion industry greats.
Tlale believes the first season of his SABC3 reality talent search show was a success. He already looks forward to working on the second season scheduled for next year.
“I believe these young designers have what it takes to change the face of fashion in South Africa,” says Tlale.
“I’m also proud that they each represent a province, which was an unconscious decision I made in the elimination process.
“They have conquered so many challenges and I’m sure they are there to stay and change the game of fashion.”
One of the highlights of the show was the heritage challenge that saw the designers cut up the iconic Basotho blankets to make garments. “They took the blankets from being ordinary to making a fashion statement that can compete on local and international stages.
“These works show the world how we pride ourselves with our heritage, tradition and fashion sense.” Reflecting on the past 13 weeks, Tlale says the show has contributed to the growth of fashion. “The show has impacted the fashion industry in a positive way. Most people now think twice about putting together a collection, the finishing of the garments, the fabrics, and also wanting to do their best for their industry. “They want to make sure that we really promote good quality clothing made in SA. For the fact that it’s made in SA doesn’t mean it has to be shabby. “It has to be better because as South Africans we pride ourselves with our diversity.”
