Thuli conquered township blues

Book traces life of ex-public protector

- No Longer Whispering to Power – The story of Thuli Madonsela AUTHOR Thandeka Gqubule PUBLISHER Jonathan Ball REVIEWER Patience Bambalele

This book has received many rave reviews.

They were uttered in adjectives and superlatives.

It is easy to see why.

It is a well-conceptualised book, with ideas captured in colours.

The greatness of it lies in the power of the writer’s pen.

Thandeka Gqubule writes with the mystic’s spellbinding and colourful language that makes you develop goosebumps.

No Longer Whispering to Power gives you a chance to understand a simple girl who was raised in a four-roomed house in Soweto.

As you continue reading it, you can connect the dots of where Thuli Madonsela’s daring spirit began.

The book shares the memories and mishaps that shaped Madonsela’s journey, including her desperately trying to get a job in politics after college.

It has gone as far as highlighting how Madonsela was detained at John Voster Square and Johannesburg Prison (Sun City).

Of course, it wouldn’t have been a complete Madonsela story without the State Capture report.

In the book, the report is defined as a thriller that set pulses racing and heartbeats pulsing.

All in all, the book seeks to suggest that when President Jacob Zuma appointed Madonsela in 2009 to be a public protector, he never saw it coming.
