Msomi throws down the gauntlet to Stars veterans

Dikwena stalwart feels they can overturn poor start to the season

- By Sihle Ndebele

Platinum Stars’ long-serving midfielder Sibusiso Msomi has challenged the rest of the senior players to make their experience count amid the club’s poor start to the season.

Dikwena are rooted to the bottom of the Absa Premiership with just two points from seven matches and they are the only side yet to taste victory in the league thus far.

In the wake of their slump, Msomi has urged the club’s seasoned campaigners to step up to the plate and help the Rustenburg-based outfit turn things around, urging them to be good examples to the youngsters in the team.

“We know that we are not doing well at the moment but we are working very hard to overturn that,” Msomi told Sowetan yesterday.

“As one of the senior players here, I feel it is my responsibility to use my experience to better this situation. I trust that all other seniors will play a pivotal role in making sure that we win games.

“This season the team brought in many younger players who are looking up to us [as senior players], so we must lead by example. We have players like Mbongeni Mzimela, Robert Ng’ambi and Vuyo Mere who have been in the Premiership for many years and I think their knowledge will be valuable at this difficult time.’’

Msomi, 28 – from Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal – has been with Dikwena for eight years.

Dikwena will be determined to register their first win of the campaign when they visit unpredictable Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on October 18.
