Kilrain a banker in all bets
All runners in Race 5 have been entered in Summer Cup.
Sansui Summer Cup hopeful Kilrain has made a promising start to his career on the Highveld, and now going over the big race distance of 2000m looks a solid win bet in the MR 96 Handicap at the Vaal today.
In 2000, Delta Form took the same path when transferring from the Mike Bass yard to Mike De Kock and went on to win the Summer Cup. At the moment the connections of Kilrain can only dream of reaching those heights, but he seems likely to turn out quite a bit better than his current handicap mark.
He finished strongly to win a MR 89 over 1600m with authority last time, and is arguably even better over this distance. The sixyear-old Dynasty gelding will take plenty of beating and is a definite exotic banker.
Remarkably, all eight acceptors for this race have been nominated for Gauteng’s glamour race on November 25, and chief among the dangers is Bankable Teddy.
A too high rating made him uncompetitive for quite a while, but since dropping to a more competitive mark and changing stables he has hardly looked back.
Just like Kilrain he comes into this off the back of a facile win and will give the favourite some cheek. Taking a Swinger and/or Exacta with these two seems an easy way to profit.
Another to have recently rediscovered his form is front runner Stonehenge. Not always known for consistency, he has produced three gutsy placed efforts in a row and seems certain to score a sixth career win in the near future. On this day he seems destined for another minor stake cheque though.
The value bet for the day comes in the form of Prosperity in Race 7, and last leg of the Jackpot. Priced up at 11-2 at the time of writing, Grant Maroun’s filly has exceeded expectations after taking 12 runs to shed her maiden tag. She has solid each-way prospects with a handy galloping weight of 53.5kg and promising youngster Ryan Munger aboard.
