Tributes for ‘Bra Dan’

PSL administrator ‘served with dignity’

- By Bongani Magasela

Jomo Sono has paid a moving tribute to the former acting PSL general manager Dan Leboa, who passed away on Friday from natural causes.

Leboa served at club level at Orlando Pirates, and was later appointed acting PSL general manager until the league appointed renowned referee Ace Ncobo in July 2008.

The 73-year-old Leboa – who was chief gate controller – continued to act as a consultant in the PSL offices until Ncobo commenced his duties on August 1 2008.

Jomo Cosmos owner Sono said: “He was a football encyclopaedia. He knew every single rule and every line in the constitution. I have known Bra Dan for many years. Even when I was a player, we used to communicate. Not only was he an administrator but also a good human being who loved to laugh,” said Sono.

“Leboa loved Orlando Pirates with his whole heart. I honestly believe that Bra Dan ran his race, and I’m sure he is happy for what he did with that God-given talent. May his soul rest in peace,” said Sono.

Pirates and PSL chairman Irvin Khoza, who worked with Leboa for many years, also conveyed his condolences to Leboa’s family on behalf of the league and its member clubs.

Khoza was quoted on his club’s website saying: “Mr Leboa served football with respect and dignity. He represented longevity in football and was an institution.

“We would like to thank his family for allowing Mr Leboa to serve the game and also thank him for dedication to serving the people and football.”

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
