Chiefs parked the Bus, Pitso teases

Steve manages to ease pressure

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane had a dig at the defensive tactic employed by Steve Komphela’s Kaizer Chiefs side in their midweek league clash.

Chiefs lined up with five defenders and the CAF Coach of the Year was critical of the strategy, saying he always has an attacking approach.

“Our identity, philosophy, our culture, we do not know how to park the bus,” he said.

Having entered their match on Wednesday under pressure, following a 2-1 loss to Baroka, Amakhosi edged Sundowns 2-1 at Loftus Versveld.

It was only the second time that Komphela’s Chiefs overcame the Brazilians following their other 2-1 win last season.

But both wins were not without drama.

Bangaly Soumahoro scored an own goal to hand Chiefs the win in April, while Tiyani Mabunda got a red card with Sundowns 2-0 down on Wednesday.

“Games against Chiefs, there is always something,” Mosimane said. “When we won the Telkom Knockout Cup in Durban there were penalties [awarded to Chiefs]. When we lost to them [in April] we scored an own goal. There is always drama. It’s never flowing easy.”

Mosimane felt the former CAF Champions League kings were dominant against Chiefs in midweek.

“Our objective was to control and direct the game and we did that in the first half. We were in charge, as always.

“We could find our passing angles and we dominated as usual. But the challenge was our domination was not dangerous and we went into that mode of playing nice and beautiful football.”

“But I said it if I had to lose this game, I can lose to Steve Komphela. I am happy. He deserves a break, he is my brother,” he added.
