SunSquare Hotel provides opulence on tight budget
Exquisite view of Table Mountain will charm you
All eyes run to the marvellous mural that welcomes guests at the SunSquare Hotel in the city bowl of Cape Town, showing the timeless beauty of the city with Table Mountain in the background and the zig-zag landscape of the skyscrapers.
This feature alone could attract the discerning art lover tourist to stand by it and marvel. Past the modern reception, interesting artefacts and designs and up the trendy lifts to the rooms, the cushy carpets that seem to let your feet sink in with every step lend a luxurious and warm feel.
SunSquare provides an affordable option for a traveller on a tight budget. The minimalist rooms are chic and comfortable.
They have the standard amenities sans the bath. At a time when the Western Cape is hit by water shortages and the restrictions are enforced, you kind of sympathise with the Capetonians.
No amount of money can buy the exquisite views of the mountain that you wake up to.
There is a gym and free Wi-Fi, which have become non-negotiables as fitness and connectivity have become buzz words.
The sweeping views of the city from the rooftop bar on the 14th floor are spectacular, at night or day. You can admire the beauty of the harbour on the Atlantic Ocean or take in the majestic rugged beauty of the mountain.
The V&V restaurant and breakfast area tend to get crowded during the breakfast rush, so take loads of patience when you descend to the buffet, which is pretty standard for a three-star establishment.
The star-studded launch of the hotel last month, hosted by funnyman Siv Ngesi, was attended by Cape Town’s finest – from premier Helen Zille (who is always ready to bogey down to a good song) and mayor Patricia de Lille to TV stars such as Leigh-Anne Williams and former Top Billing presenter Dr Michael Mol.
The easy access to the city centre and the tourist cathedral of V&A Waterfront make this location great for those who enjoy walking in a foreign city.
