Boxers to rumble in the ghetto

Fans are promised night to remember

- By Bongani Magasela

Fight fans must gear up for a night to remember when Team Dida Promotions stages its fourth tournament at Kagiso Memorial Centre on Saturday.

This promise was made yesterday by Buhle Nzimande of Vision View Productions, which will jointly stage the tournament with the Kagisobased company.

The tournament is dubbed “Rumble in the Ghetto”.

Nzimande said: “This one is set to be a blast, starting with a picnic and good music at the venue. This offering will serve as a build-up.”

The promotion’s rising star, newly crowned Gauteng junior featherweight champion Thato “Captain Charisma” Bonokoane, will headline the bill when he welcomes Luthando Mbumbulwana of Eastern Cape for a vacant WBF All Africa title.

Bonokoane – who is guided by Pius “Mr Hercules” Dipheko – won the provincial title against Bongani Bhuti at the same venue in July.

He has five wins in six fights, while Mbumbulwana, from Libode, has nine wins from 13 fights. In the main supporting bout, Mpho “Turbo” Seforo will put his Gauteng junior flyweight title on the line against Thabang “Pretty Boy” Ramagole, who is trained by his brother Lehlohonolo Ramagole.

Nzimande said: “Since Pius is from Kagiso, it is vital for the project to be in his community where he has also impacted and transformed boxing by developing amateur boxers to compete in professional ranks.” Action begins at 6pm.
