Veale v Delpech: take the Exacta

Ataturk and Aforaway to fight it out

- By Racing Editor

An exciting finish can be expected on the Greyville Turf, track today courtesy of two promising threeyear-old’s who are set to lock horns in Race 7, a MR 70 Handicap over 2400m.

On recent form it is the son of Strategic News Aforaway who makes the most appeal.

Sean Tarry’s charge showed a liking for further when skipping 1.75-lengths clear of Making Miracles over the course and distance in his last start.

He is drawn No 8 in this 11-horse field, but has plenty scope for improvement.

Although making his handicap debut, Aforaway is well in at the weights, carrying just 56.5kg.

He gets the services of champion jockey Anthony Delpech and could prove better than his current merit rating of 80.

His main threat will be the Paul Gadsby-trained Ataturk who has impressively won twice on the Polytrack.

His only try on the Turf resulted in a seventh place finish in a 2400m contest at Scottsville.

In his defence, he lost two lengths at the start, faced traffic issues late and was eased at the 350m, expect massive improvement.

A son of Ideal World, he is handsomely drawn in stall gate 5 and will shoulder 2kg more than Aforaway at 58.5kg.

The pair make for a great boxed Exacta bet to take and are all you need in your Pick 6 and Jackpot.

The trainer-jockey combination of Dean Kannemeyer and Anthony Delpech has been in sparking form and provide the best bet on the card, Pearl Glow in Race 2, a Maiden Plate (3-yearold Fillies) over 1400m. This daughter of Querari was a 7-10 beaten favourite in her last start when falling 1.50-lengths behind Argenteus on the Poly last time.

She is the best handicapped runner in the race can reward her supporters with a decent payday. She is a BiPot banker.
