Arrows use Fifa break to sharpen up

Sibiya says they are prepared for Pirates

- By Sihle Ndebele

Lamontville Golden Arrows midfielder Nduduzo Sibiya believes the Fifa break gave them enough time to prepare for their clash against Orlando Pirates next Tuesday.

Arrows have failed to win in their last five Absa Premiership fixtures. In their last game, they suffered their maiden league defeat of the season, 3-0 to SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium at the end of last month.

Nevertheless, Sibiya reckons the international break came at the right time.

“The break gave us time to review our previous performances,” said Sibiya.

“We have tried to identify where we got it all wrong [and] also got enough time to prepare for our next game against Pirates. It is a big game and we do not need extra motivation.”

After the Buccaneers eliminated them from the Telkom Knockout last month, Sibiya has downplayed talks of going for revenge at Orlando Stadium.

“It is very important to win against Pirates but we are not thinking about avenging. We are focusing on ourselves. We have studied how they play and we want nothing less than maximum points,’’ stated the reigning Nedbank Cup Young Player of the Tournament.

Sibiya and some of his firstteam colleagues shone in Arrows’ MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) at the weekend – thumping their provincial foes AmaZulu 5-0 in Durban.

“Playing in the MDC was about maintaining our fitness. The [reserve] league has always been competitive and we all enjoyed getting a run there.

“It was also a plan to get ready for the Pirates game.’’
