Mahlasela only thinking of TKO

Midfielder dismisses talk of leaving Celtic

- By Sihle Ndebele

Though he says he may consider a move from Bloemfontein Celtic at some stage, Kabelo Mahlasela wants to win the Telkom Knockout first.

Mahlasela has been heavily linked with Kaizer Chiefs after he reportedly rejected Celtic’s new offer. His contract with Phunya Sele Sele expires in June next year.

“My dream has always been to win a cup with Celtic before thinking about other things. If I were to leave Celtic it must not happen before I win a trophy with them,’’ Mahlasela said yesterday.

“At the moment I know nothing about those clubs who want me, I am only reading about it in newspapers. I am a Celtic player and I must respect that by giving my all for the team.’’

Celtic booked their berth in the TKO final after beating Polokwane City in the semifinal, on penalties, at Peter Mokaba Stadium at the weekend.

They will face Bidvest Wits in the decider at Princess Magogo Stadiumin Durban on December 2.

Celtic won the same competition in 2012, beating Mamelodi Sundowns in the final and Mahlasela feels they can reclaim the trophy.

“We have a good squad and we believe we have what is needed to win this cup again. Some of the players who won it in 2012 are still here and that is an advantage because they know what is expected.’’

Celtic must halt their TKO thoughts when they visit struggling Platinum Stars for a league encounter at Royal Bafokeng Stadium tomorrow (7.30pm).

“We must remain humble against Stars. We must not allow complacency to set in. It will not be easy because we also knocked them out of Telkom Knockout [in the quarterfinals earlier this month ], so they will want to avenge,’’ stated Mahlasela.
