The Roodepoort mother who was raped and robbed inside a taxi wasallegedly ordered to lie down on a seat and keep quiet while she was being raped.

She was told if she made a noise, the man driving the taxi would also join in.

Two Soweto taxi drivers, aged 28 and 36, appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of rape, robbery and kidnapping for crimes committed in Soweto in March.

At the time of the incident, there were three men in the taxi. Police spokesman Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said this week that they were still searching for the third suspect. The woman and her son had boarded the taxi on Ontdekkers Road.

She was raped by the three men who also withdrew money from her bank account several times after they forced her to give them her bank card PIN.

Sowetan understands she was robbed of R1700 and a cellphone worth R10 000.

The 28-year-old suspect allegedly told her he was horny before undressing and raping her while her 10-year-old son watched. Her ordeal lasted four hours before she and her son were released. They made their way to a garage where she was able to call for help.

The 28-year-old man has since been linked to eight other rape incidents through DNA.

The matter was postponed to January for further investigations. The suspects were remanded in custody.
