Extravaganza for music fans
Maftown Heights part of mega festival feast
The popular hip-hop festival Maftown Heights, part of the Mahika Mahikeng Festival, started yesterday in North West.
The music extravaganza continues today at Mmabatho Stadium, featuring top hip-hop artists who include Khuli Chana, Morafe, Tuks, Fifi Cooper, Bongo Maffin, HHP and Super Fresh.
Maftown Heights’s Barbara Gaoganediwe said: “Mahikeng is the spiritual home of Maftown Heights, so it’s only fitting that we take the show back to its people.
“For many years others benefited from this concept, not the people of Mahikeng. So it is time to give back to the people.”
Mahika Mahikeng event organiser Molefi Setlaleleng said: “Mahika Mahikeng has, during the past two instalments, hosted the Motswako fest as part of its activities. We have deemed it appropriate to bring Maftown Heights this side as Mahikeng is the home of Motswako and rightful venue for this august hip-hop festival.”
The four-day Mahika Mahikeng concert will host various activities, including a comedy show featuring David Kau, Mpho Pops, Siya Seya and Jonez Blaqgzus.
A jazz festival, which will feature top artists like Caiphus Semenya and Letta Mbulu, Mafikizolo, Robbie Malinga, Selaelo Selota, Zonke, Musa, Tshedi Mholo, Amanda Black, Samething Soweto, KB Motsilenyana, Zahara, Vusi Nova and many other great Mzansi performers, will take place on Sunday.
