The time 8.58am on December 5 will remain permanently etched in our collective memories as Modise and Mahibila families.

On that painful day we lost our loving sister, Salome Nchita Mahibila (née Modise). A mother and a loving wife to her husband, Ramaje Mahibila who she affectionately called Rami, until the end of her life.

After she was admitted in an intensive care unit at Montana Hospital in Pretoria spanning consecutive, painful and heart-wrenching three months, Nchita’s life came to an end on that fateful day.

Mahibila was born in Eersterus, Pretoria, in 1959, before our family settled in GaRankuwa.

In 1980, she matriculated at Rantailane High School, and a year later she got married and was blessed with three kids, Lesego (eldest), Katlego (late) and Rearabilwe (late).

From 1985 to 1990, she was in the employ of OK GaRankuwa before joining the then Bophuthatswana department of education in May 1990.

At the time of her passing, she was working for the Gauteng department of education where she held various administration positions at its Mabopane district office.

It was during this time of her employment that she pursued further studies in administration and public management with the nowdefunct Technikon SA

She was the eldest child of Lucas (late) and Norah Modise. The pain of my sister’s loss comes as the family is still coming to terms with the loss of our younger brother early last year.

Mahibila is survived by her husband, mother, daughter, grandchildren and siblings.
