Dikwena upbeat on Wits clash

Mere sure team will soon move out of relegation zone

Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere has described Dikwena’s clash against Bidvest Wits on Saturday as a “six-pointer”.

Dikwena and Wits are neckand-neck at the bottom of the Absa Premiership table, with Stars just a point ahead of Gavin Hunt’s side who are at the basement of the table. Mere is expecting a high-octane affair at the Bidvest Stadium (8.15pm).

“It’s a six-pointer. Both teams need the points but I think we need to do that ourselves. We need these points. We can’t expect other teams to be doing us favours. It’s going to be a very difficult game.

“We know what Wits are capable of. We have to go there confident of getting a win though.

“We are looking forward to getting out of the relegation zone,” said Mere in a press release sent out by his club.

Though Dikwena have been battling at the bottom half of the table since the beginning of the season, Mere is confident they will make a move before going into the Christmas break. “We all know that we didn’t get the start we wanted as a team.

“We are happy that the boys have their confidence back. “We are progressing at a very slow pace. We need to get ourselves out of this relegation zone before the start of the second round because it’s going to be very difficult.

“So far we are happy that since coach Roger de Sa took over, things are well.

“It’s up to us as players that we secure our jobs because we don’t want to be fighting relegation in the second round.

“I am happy with the way things are going. We have to do our part. Players have their confidence back. Roger encourages players to get out of their shells,” Mere said.
