Second chance to crack matric

Strong support to rewrite exams

There is still hope for the 14 000 Gauteng pupils who have failed their final exams for the National Senior Certificate in 2017.

Gauteng MEC of education Panyaza Lesufi said there were plans to help affected pupils.

“We are putting strong systems around them. All of them automatically qualify for the programme of the provincial government called Tshepo-1 Million. This is a programme that trains young people to get opportunities.

“Those who want to finish matric will be given support through Tshepo-1 Million on something that is called second chance. They will be given study guides, tutors and lessons to prepare them to write their exams.”

Lesufi said for those who want to go into the private sector, there are 28 private companies that have signed with Tshepo-1 Million who are looking for young people for their training programmes.

Matriculants who want their scripts to be remarked or who want to investigate missing scripts have 30 days to provide the department with that information. Those who want the remarking of their exam scripts have until January 19 to have their scripts re-checked or remarked.

On the four schools in Johannesburg, Sedibeng, West Rand and Pretoria who attained a zero percent pass for their matric pupils, Lesufi said the pupils from those schools would be given another chance to write their exams.
