Arrows hit bull’s eye for Zuke
Former Chippa star happy to be home
The thought of being closer to his family in Durban, which he left when he was 20 to join Kaizer Chiefs, was one of the factors that inspired Sandile Zuke to sign for Lamontville Golden Arrows.
The defensive midfielder, who is now 30, joined Abafana Bes’thende from Chippa United, where he made 13 league appearances this season.
“I have been away from home for many years and this move is a good opportunity to spend some time with my family,” Zuke told Sowetan yesterday.
He has been with Chippa for two years since he joined the Cape-based club from Bidvest Wits in 2015.
“I feel very happy to play for a team from my home town,’’ he added.
“The chairlady [Manto Madlala] called me and told me that she w ants me to play for Arrows.
“It was easy to leave Chippa because they were already planning to sell me [in] this transfer window period.”
Despite the fact that he turns 31 in June, Zuke emphasised the fact that retiring was the last thing on his mind.
“I am still feeling fresh and I believe that I have not done it all [in terms of achievements]. I still have a lot to give,’’ noted the former Amakhosi man who also had a brief stint in Thailand, playing for Jumpasri United in 2012.
Zuke also hopes to use his experience to mentor the youngsters at his new team.
“I am willing to help the youngsters on and off the field. I know that this team has many youngsters and I will be happy to help them in whatever way,’’ he said.
