Downs’ hunt for players intensifies
Time running out for Mosimane to beef up his squad for CAF assault
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane admits there are advanced negotiations behind the scenes to sign at least three players before the CAF Champions League registration deadline.
Sundowns are in a race against time before the window to register CAF teams closes on Monday.
SuperSport United striker Jeremy Brockie is rumoured to be among the players Mosimane wants to sign, along with an unknown South American duo.
Mosimane admits that the difficulty is that clubs demand more money for transfers from Sundowns.
“It’s a bit difficult. When Sundowns have to buy the price is different so that’s what we [are] fighting for,” Mosimane said shortly after the Brazilians extended their lead at the summit of the Absa Premiership with a 2-1 win over Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday.
“It’s a bit costly, but we play the Champions League [and] we trade in dollars there, the Club World Cup, dollars, so it’s a give and take.
“That is why we brought in Aubrey Ngoma and we must bring three more at least. Sometimes we complain [that] it’s expensive but once we go to the group stages of Champions League it’s a completely different story.”
The former Champions League holders will next face Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versveld on Saturday. They will only have three days to recuperate for the heavyweight clash.
“Now we are playing a wellrested Pirates with no injuries. We have to regenerate and face a difficult team.”
Mosimane says his team has one eye on the domestic league and the other on African competition.
“As much as we are fighting to win the Premiership we are also in a preparation period for the Champions League that starts in six weeks’ time.”
