Urgent need for probe into Sascoc

-

The drawn-out sex-pest saga at the SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) headquarters culminated this week with the federation axing three of its senior officials.

Chief executive Tubby Reddy, chief financial officer Vinesh Maharaj and executive manager in Reddy’s office, Jean Kelly, were shown the door on Monday.

As expected, the trio are challenging their dismissal with Reddy leading the fightback after being found guilty of sexual harassment.

We are glad that Sascoc showed their fangs and acted on such a serious case.

But are we going to hear the end of shenanigans against Sascoc?

It doesn’t look like it as Reddy has threatened to “expose” some of the irregularities that have been playing out behind the scenes at Sascoc House. He already claims the legal battle cost Sascoc in the region of R3-million.

This when the federation needs about R17-million to deliver Team SA at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April.

Surely a huge amount like this being spent on legal bills could be put to good use in the preparation of our national sports teams.

Much as Reddy is not covered in glory, the allegations that are contained in his “458-page dossier” should be investigated thoroughly.

We hope all these will be presented before the ministerial committee of inquiry next week, since Sports Minister Thulas Nxesi is also keen to get to the bottom of how Sascoc go about their business.
