Muhsin wants Gaxa for relegation battle

AJAX COACH SAYS HIS TEAM NEEDS HELP IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID RELEGATION

-

Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral is exploring the possibility of drafting in veteran right-back Siboniso Gaxa to help the club in their relegation battle.

Gaxa is training with the Urban Warriors after leaving BidVest Wits at the end of last season, as Ertugral looks for experience to vie with youngster Sirgio Kammies in what he sees as a troublesome position.

“Gaxa is a player I wanted during my time at Kaizer Chiefs. I left and they got him,” Ertugral said.

“I love the boy, but there is maybe a contractual issue and the question is can we have him, what are his demands? This is a matter for the management, but in the end the most important thing is how quickly can he get to what we expect from him.

“Does he take over six weeks, then it is a problem. We need immediate help.”

Ertugral believes junior international Kammies is a fine prospect going forward, but is worried about his defensive abilities in the wing-back position.

He felt the youngster and centre-back Isaac Nhlapo were at fault for the goal his side conceded in the 3-1 win over Platinum Stars on Friday, when Zama Rambuwane got between them to head home.

“Kammies is not a natural wingback player with the attributes and defensive forms needed. There are seven or eight different requirements for this position and when you tick what he can do, maybe there is only one or two, I saw that immediately.

Ertugral likened Kammies to Aubrey Modiba, who he coached at Mpumalanga Black Aces, but is now excelling with SuperSport United.

“Aubrey Modiba, it was the same story. Defensive line was a problem, but when you release him in an offensive form, he was marvellous to watch.

“Kammies is fantastic but he needs to understand the defensive lines and how to block a game.”

Ajax are next in action against Cape Town City in a Mother City Derby on Saturday afternoon.
