Ma Amour, Huyssteen to make a great double

Plenty of value on today’s card

- By Racing Editor

There appears to be great value for money at the Vaal today, and a mouth-watering double is worth a bet, courtesy of Ma Amour and Huyssteen who are both in with big chances. Although missing the placings once in her last seven outings, Ma Amour has proven rather costly to follow. However, following two promising consecutive seconds, she seems to have found her niche over 2400m. With the scratching of Hope Solo, this Stanley Ferreira-trained four-year-old tops the best weighted column when she lines up in Race 4, a fillies and mares maiden plate over 2400m. She reunites with long-time collaborator Marco van Rensburg who has ridden her in in six of her 10 career starts. She is well drawn in stall gate 2 and should prove better than her current merit rating of 50. Nothing else on form makes appeal and as a result, this daughter of Royal Air Force is BiPot and Place Accumulator banker material. Lucky Houdalakis-trained Huyssteen showed tremendous heart in victory when defeating Outside Edge by 0-40 lengths in his latest effort. He could double up in Race 8, a MR 72 Handicap over 1450m. He has a wide No 11 draw to overcome and returns from a 97-day rest, but his class should see him through. Karl Zechner takes the ride and with just 57.5kg to carry should be ready to step up in class. Rebuked shouldn’t be too far back, though, under apprentice jockey Mpumi Mjoka who claims 1.5kg aboard the five-year-old who was carded to shoulder 62kg. Rebuked is ultra-consistent and never runs far off them past the post. From a No 1 draw he should be running on strongly in the dying stages.
