Former intelligence cop found dead in car
Retired general died of ‘strangulation’
The body of a retired policeman, believed to have headed crime intelligence, has been discovered in the backseat of an abandoned car in Tembisa’s informal settlement, in what is suspected to have been an attack that involved strangulation.
Gauteng police spokesman Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed last night that the body of the former cop was found following a tip-off in the early hours of yesterday in a street of Winnie Mandela informal settlement.
“Police were informed that there was a person lying at the back of his car. And when the police went there, they found the body.
“He was found at about 2.30am, sitting at the backseat of a car which had keys [in the ignition].
“When they removed the body, they suspected that he might have been strangled,” said Dlamini, adding that a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
He said the motive for the murder was still not known and arrests have not been made.
“It is not known how it happened,” Dlamini said.
He said though the police have informed the family members of the deceased, he did not know his personal details.
“All I know is that he is an ex-policeman,” said Dlamini.
However, Eyewitness News reported that the former police officer was found in a Hyundai Accent, and that he used to work as a major-general in crime intelligence in Gauteng.
