Legal Eagle drawn wide for Sun Met
Legal Eagle who is currently trading at 9-2 to win the R5 million Sun Met celebrated with G.H. MUMM champagne (Grade 1) to be run over 2000m at Kenilworth next Saturday will jump from No 15 stall.
This is the widest he has drawn since overcoming No 14 draw in a 14-horse field back in 2015! He showed class in that 2450m contest, beating Deputy Jud by three lengths. Jockey Anton Marcus knows him very well and to his advantage, Legal Eagle can come from off the pace and also run from the front.
Joint favourite Marinaresco is drawn No 13, however, he is no stranger to wide draws and considering he is notoriously known for dropping out early and flying in the dying stages, this shouldn’t affect him too much. He has had the perfect preparation and if his Queen’s Plate run is any indication then he’ll prove a big runner.
Third favourite Last Winter drew widest of all at No 20. Dean Kannemeyer-trained four-year-old will have jockey Piere Strydom ridding him. He won the Vodacom Durban July
aboard The Conglomerate in 2016 jumping from the widest draw.
The two Mike de Kocktrained runners, who are fancied drew well, with Anthony Delpech’s
mount Cascapedia at No 5 and Heavenly Blue, who will have Callan Murray aboard at No 2.
Oh Susanna is drawn No 6 and has shortened from 10-1 to 17-2.
