Brockie just wants to score more goals
‘The Sniper’ aims to repay Pitso for his faith in him
New Mamelodi Sundowns sharpshooter Jeremy Brockie concedes that the only regret he has about his time at SuperSport United was failing to become the club’s all-time leading goal-scorer.
Brockie secured a blockbuster move to the Brazilians this week, after three successful years at Matsatsantsa a Pitori.
The 30-year-old left the club as the second highest goalscorer with 54 goals in 119 appearances.
The New Zealander narrowly missed out on the record of 57 goals held by the late Abram Raselemane.
“That’s probably my only disappointment, after being so close for so long it did not happen. But I think I still contributed well to the club and hopefully they will remember me for that,” Brockie told Sowetan.
The former Wellington Phoenix marksman is, however, excited about the prospect of scoring more goals at Sundowns and perhaps registering a century of goals in the PSL.
“That’s my longer-term goal now – to reach the 100-mark. I am not resting on my laurels as I need to start scoring goals for my new club,” he said.
Brockie was officially unveiled alongside fellow new signings Aubrey Ngoma, Siyabonga Zulu and Gaston Sirino by club president Patrice Motsepe at their headquarters yesterday.
Sundowns will be taking on Platinum Stars on Saturday (6pm), where the new recruits could make their debuts.
Brockie, who announced his arrival to SA football with a debut goal for Matsatsantsa against Mpumalanga Black Aces in February 2015, hopes to do the same if given a chance against Dikwena at Loftus Versveld.
“I don’t know what the coach’s plans are for the weekend game but maybe if I get on the pitch I can repeat what I did when I debuted here in SA.”
The man Pitso Mosimane refers to as “The Sniper” aims to repay the faith showed in him after tough negotiations with SuperSport.
“It’s a great feeling for a club to show so much interest in me, and the coach as well believes in me. I will do my best and give it my all to help the team to get some silverware.”
