Daughter ‘kills’ mom
● Gran inconsolable after granddaughter’s arrest for killing her parent ● Cops say she promised hitmen R100 000 to do the job
A granny has to look after her two great-grandchildren after her granddaughter allegedly killed her mother.
Mamoloko Mabina, 71, from Seshego in Polokwane, Limpopo, was still coming to terms with her daughter Nancy’s murder when police arrested her 27-year-old granddaughter Violet for the crime on Friday.
Nancy, 53, was killed by hired hitmen on January 14 at the home the family shared.
Nancy was sleeping when three men entered the house and allegedly strangled her to death.
Police investigations revealed that Violet allegedly hired the three men to kill her mother because of a feud and money Nancy was alleged to have.
Brian Ndlovu, 24, Wellington Shumbayaonda, 27, and Tangai Dinyelo, 26, were arrested on Tuesday. Mabina, however, said she knew of no animosity between Nancy and Violet.
“What I know [is that] there was no feud in the family. We lived a happy life,” she said.
Mabina said she had no knowledge of her daughter having any money as Nancy was unemployed.
Violet was also unemployed. Police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the granddaughter allegedly promised to pay the hitmen R100 000 “immediately after the job was done”.
She apparently had information that her mother had money, Mojapelo said, so she decided to kill her.
A tearful Mabina said: “We lived a peaceful life in the family and at no stage had I suspected that there were differences between my daughter and granddaughter.
“I feel an enormous pain after losing my daughter, especially since her own daughter has been fingered in the matter.”
She described Nancy as a reserved person. “She preferred spending most of her time with me at home. She never visited friends.”
When asked how she felt about her granddaughter’s alleged crime, Mabina said: “I’m a Christian and do not want to judge anyone. What happened pains me a lot and I leave everything in God’s hands.
“The Bible has taught me to forgive, but I cannot interfere with the duties of the police in conducting their investigations on the matter.”
Nancy was buried on Saturday, while Violet appeared in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for murder.
Ndlovu, Shumbayaonda and Dinyelo also appeared in the same court yesterday for Nancy’s death. The cases have been postponed to February 15 when they will appear together to apply for bail. All four were remanded in custody. Last month, Vuyelwa Glenrose Ramaepadi, 37, from GaMotodi village near Burgersfort was arrested together with two men – Johannes Mphego, 39, and Richwell Moeng, 34 – whom she allegedly hired to murder her husband Johannes Ramaepadi, 53.
He was hijacked and killed. The car was later found abandoned.
The trio will apply for bail in the Tubatse Magistrate’s Court on February 2.
Mojapelo condemned the incidents and said police would do everything in their power to root out “such elements”.
