Tinkler in search for top striker

Brockie void needs urgent solution

- By Gomolemo Motshwane

The search to replace Jeremy Brockie continues at SuperSport United but the club only has a week to conclude any possible deal before the end of the January transfer window.

Matsatsantsa-a-Pitori appear thin in attack after the sale of Brockie to Mamelodi Sundowns and the injuries to strikers Thabo Mnyamane and Bradley Grobler.

Their excellent run in the CAF Confederation Cup has taken its toll on the team and wins are hard to come by for SuperSport at the moment.

They have clocked up two wins, five draws and five losses in their last 12 league games.

Their circumstances have forced them to turn to rookie strikers Dylan Stoffels, Darren Smith and previously out-offavour veteran Kingston Nkhatha.

Coach Eric Tinkler admits finding a quality replacement for Brockie won’t be easy.

“We are looking for someone who will add value. We are not going to sign any first striker we see,” Tinkler said.

Matsatsantsa relinquished precious points in a 1-1 draw at home against Polokwane City in midweek after conceding in stoppage time.

Tinkler concedes that the club is facing major challenges.

“We are a team that has been extremely successful over the past two seasons and we are going through a period where we are looking to rebuild, but it does not happen overnight.

“We have a lot of young boys coming through. And we have to be patient with them.”

Yet Tinkler insists he is not worried about losing his job.

“I have to keep calm. If I don’t the players will panic. I am not thinking of getting fired.”

SuperSport next face Bidvest Wits at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday at 8.15pm.
