Sparks set to fly at Chiefs, Downs match

Khune promises a thriller for fans

Knowing what Mamelodi Sundowns are capable of, Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has promised to be on top of his game during Saturday’s league clash at the FNB Stadium (8.15pm).

Sundowns boast the best attack in the league, with 31 goals in 18 outings, while Chiefs have the second best defence behind Maritzburg United, with just 11 goals conceded this season.

Khune revealed he has been warned by former teammate George Lebese, who’s now with Sundowns, that he must watch his goal line.

Mzansi’s number one, however, thinks Sundowns are capable of scoring from just about anywhere and that Chiefs, even though they beat Sundowns 2-1 in the first round in Pretoria, will have a very difficult time against the Brazilians.

“Firstly, it has always been our plan to stay in the pack and not let Sundowns open a gap at the top. So this is a perfect opportunity for us to narrow the gap to two points. It’s going to be a great match for the supporters.

“Sundowns are on fire; they are scoring left, right and centre. Percy Tau is on form, but not only him. They get goals from [Sibusiso] Vilakazi and Themba Zwane. We have to close them down. As soon as they jump the halfway line, it’s music and we have to dance to that music. We must make sure we defend well, but I trust my players,” Khune said.

Meanwhile, Downs coach Pitso Mosimane is on record saying he’s “scared” of Chiefs, but Khune said it smacks of mind games.

“Whoever wins on Saturday will be a team that has prepared well,” Khune added.
