No secret formula to Bolt’s magic?
Legend unsure how his records could be beaten
August will mark 10 years since Usain Bolt set the current 200m world record of 19.19 seconds.
He also posted a world-beating 9.58sec over 100m in 2009.
The question remains if these magical marks in the short sprints can be bettered any time soon, and even Bolt is unsure what it would take.
“I really don’t know,” he said, responding to a Sowetan question during his tour of Johannesburg this week.
“All I did was to work hard, stayed dedicated and true to what I want and, most importantly, to enjoy the sport.
“No matter what happened – injuries and setbacks – I was always positive and confident in my coach [Glen Mills], my team [Racers Club] and in myself, that if I push myself, I could be great.”
The 31-year-old’s final competition was the IAAF World Championships in London last year.
He retired with 11 world titles, which he racked up since he rose to prominence at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, where he shattered Michael Johnson’s 12-year-old 200m record.
“Nobody knows what are the possibilities when it comes to times. You can’t set limits for yourself but it’s always about finding new ways to train and run efficiently,” he pointed out.
While dust continues to gather on his magical marks, Bolt said he always gets goose-bumps when he watches videos of moments especially when he was younger.
“I’m proud that I did it for my country. “Now that I have stepped away from Jamaica, it’s for the new guys to take over,” he said.
