Dash to beat transfer deadline

PSL bench-warmers aim for fresh start as transfer window slams shut

- By Tiyani wa ka Mabasa

The PSL January transfer window presented at least 10 players with an opportunity to search for game time at other top-flight clubs.

It was arguably the busiest mid-season transfer window in recent memory and resulted in some bench-warmers getting a fresh start elsewhere.

Orlando Pirates confirmed yesterday they have sent midfielder Riyaad Norodien on loan to Platinum Stars. This was after the Buccaneers loaned defender Ayanda Gcaba to the struggling North West-based side.

Norodien has featured just five times for Pirates all season, while Gcaba is yet to make an appearance.

Both players will be tasked with helping Dikwena evade relegation.

Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs confirmed that midfielder Willam Twala will spend the rest of the season with Maritzburg United.

Twala, like Norodien, rarely played. He has six appearances to his name for Amakhosi.

Another player who has made a switch in search of playing time is Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni, who has returned to Free State Stars.

Ngobeni has made no appearance this campaign. During his time with Ea Lla Koto last season, he was between the sticks 29 times in all competitions.

Other notable PSL players who have moved between topflight sides on loan include Mamelodi Sundowns duo Fares Hachi and Yannick Zakri, who moved to Chippa United and Ajax Cape Town.

Lorenzo Gordinho switched from Kaizer Chiefs to Bloemfontein Celtic.

Meanwhile, some National First Division sides also roped in players from the PSL on loan.

This list includes Khanyisa Mayo, who will spend the rest of the season at Ubuntu Cape Town.

He joined them from SuperSport United.

AmaZulu sent Nkanyiso Zungu to Jomo Cosmos and Cape Town City helped their neighbours Cape Town All Stars with three players: Kamogelo Mogotlane, Mickyle Jackson and Safwan Hendricks.
