EFF leader Malema attacks ANC president
Malema says Cyril cut a deal with new Eskom chairman
EFF leader Julius Malema was in fine fettle yesterday attacking ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa, President Jacob Zuma and threatening legal action to stop the State of the Nation Address (Sona).
“Cyril is a deal-maker. The ANC does not have a politician president,” he said.
“It has got a businessman who goes around making deals. Cyril can kill for profit. Cyril can kill to defend white monopoly interests,” Malema said in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, yesterday, referring to Marikana, where 34 striking mineworkers were gunned down.
Malema also called on Ramaphosa to reverse the appointment of former MTN group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa to the Eskom board. He threatened to reveal the role Dabengwa played to ensure that Ramaphosa was elected ANC president at the party’s national elective conference in December.
Malema went as far as to suggest that Ramaphosa and former finance minister Trevor Manuel were “cleaners” for billionaire businessman Johan n Rupert.
Turning to Zuma, the EFF commander-in-chief said: “Leave him to us. It looks like this guy has defeated you.”
This follows Zuma’s refusal to resign after being asked by the ANC national officials, including Ramaphosa, to step down on Sunday night.
Malema said Zuma has dared the ANC to fire him.
“You must be guaranteed that the man wants to be pushed out.
“What is even worse is that Zuma is not scared of impeachment,” Malema said.
He also revealed that his party was considering legal action to stop Zuma from delivering the Sona.
“Sona must come. Our people need to know the state of affairs here. But it must be delivered by people who respect the constitution and not a constitutional delinquent.”
Malema said he was happy about how Zuma was treating the ANC.
“When we said the same things they are saying to him, they protected him. When you are told in the township that your child is a criminal and that your child went to rape people, you protect him. Wait until he does that to you.
“That is what the ANC is confronted with today. We warned them about this delinquent.”
Malema was adamant that a motion of no confidence in Zuma was going to be tabled in parliament on Thursday even though Speaker Baleka Mbete has declined the EFF a request for a debated before Sona.
Ramaphosa’s acting spokesman Tyrone Seale said: “We are not reacting. We don’t wish to say anything.”
