Arrows occupy 12th spot on the log

- By Gomolemo Motshwane

Golden Arrows attacker Knox Mutizwa feels his team has enough quality to secure their first back-to-back top eight Absa Premiership finish.

Abafana Bes’thende have never in their history secured a finish in the top half for two consecutive seasons.

The team secured their fourth top eight place last season when they finished eighth. Arrows are currently in 12th position with 23 points, and are in the running for a top-half finish as they are just three points behind AmaZulu, who are eighth on the table.

“I think we still have a fighting chance for a top-eight finish because we are only three points below,” Mutizwa said.

“We just need to finish strongly in the remaining games, it is still in our hands and the boys are motivated to do well in the next two months.”

Arrows will host Bidvest Wits at the Princess Magogo Stadium tomorrow (3.30pm).

The university club have had a difficult follow-up season after winning the championship in the last campaign. They are in the relegation mix, lying 14th with 22 points after 20 games.

Mutizwa believes a win against the Telkom Knockout champions can ignite a good run in their remaining 10 games.

“It won’t be easy because Wits are fighting for survival, but we feel we have prepared enough to get a positive result.”

Arrows will be looking for a repeat of their first round 3-1 victory over The Clever Boys.

“We are playing at home and we need to make use of that advantage. I expect them to be focused for a win after we beat them in the first round. They have also brought in some new players in January, so it won’t be easy,” said Mutizwa.
