Sibiya’s brace reserves MDC cup for Arrows
Nduduzo Sibiya’s experience proved key for Lamontville Golden Arrows when they clinched their second MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) title, beating Orlando Pirates 2-0 yesterday.
Sibiya, who is also a first team regular, netted a brace to ensure that the Durbanites are the reserve league champions for the record second time after winning it two years ago.
He first converted in the 72nd mi nute after Pirates goalkeeper Tsebo Tsotesti was adjudged to have fouled Nkosikhona Dube.
The diminutive midfielder was not done yet because 15 minutes later he completed his brace with an exquisite free-kick. After putting in a man of the match performance, Sibiya said he hoped his reserve league exploits will help him reclaim his spot in the struggling first team.
“I hope I’ll build on this and get back to the first team. Playing in the MDC has improved my confidence. I want to help the first team escape relegation,” said Sibiya.
“I have been out injured and getting back to my best hasn’t been easy but the MDC has given me a good platform to regain my form and help the first team improve,” added the 22-year-old.
Sibiya was also part of the Abafana Bes’thende team that won the 2015/16 reserve league edition.
“The main priority for our MDC team is not to win the title but is to help the first team with players. We play under no pressure, that’s why we are enjoying and winning.”
