Kgaswane’s double revives troubled Baroka

Citizens left to rue missed chances in Polokwane

- By Sihle Ndebele

Indecisiveness in front of goal and poor finishing let Cape Town City down in their 2-0 defeat to Baroka at Peter Mokaba Stadium last night.

Mpho Kgaswane’s moment of brilliance ensured Bakgaga emerged victorious, adding to City’s woes as their winless streak in the league stretched to five games.

The Citizens’ last league victory was a 1-0 derby win over Ajax Cape Town last month.

Kgaswane scored an exquisite free-kick in the 35th minute before completing his brace deep in regulation time by netting another blistering strike, his fourth goal of the season.

Nevertheless, the result was not the true reflection of the game as City squandered numerous goal-scoring opportunities in both halves.

Judas Moseamedi and Shane Roberts were among guilty City players who couldn’t convert clear chances.

For Baroka, it seemed their off-field drama did not have any negative impact on the players as Bakgaga managed their seventh league win of the season.

Prior to last night’s game, the club announced they had released captain Olaleng Shaku and goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.

The duo had been suspended – alongside coach Kgoloko Thobejane who is set to face

DC today – over allegations of misconduct.

The win for Baroka saw them end their five-game winless run. They visit defending champions Bidvest

Wits at Bidvest Stadium on Friday, while City will host Chippa United at Athlone Stadium on the same day.
