Modiba, Musona among top rivals

Maritzburg United midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu has been tipped to take home the PSL Young Player of the Year award at the end of the season,

but he’s got serious competition.

Ndlovu, 21, has been one of the standout performers for the Team of Choice, who have been punching above their weight this season.

Now in his second season, the Ashdown, Pietermaritzburg-born player has shown maturity beyond his age. He has made 20 League appearances, which qualifies him for the award.

To qualify, a player must have played 60% of his team’s Absa Premiership matches, while he should have been 21 in the year the season started. Ndlovu’s challengers:

(SuperSport

Aubrey Modiba

United, 22)

He’s arguably one of the most underrated players in the league. Comfortable at left back or wing, he has scored six goals in 20 league matches. (Polokwane

City, 22)

He was known as Knowledge Musona’s younger brother when he signed for Rise and Shine just over a year ago, but he’s slowly coming out of his big brother’s shadow. He’s scored some great goals, including the free-kick that beat Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng

Walter Musona

Khune recently. He has five goals in 17 league matches.

Siyabonga Ngezana

(Kaizer Chiefs, 20)

He’s probably going to miss out because he has 11 appearances with eight matches remaining. The centre back, who can also play on the right side of the defence, is solid at the back.

Wiseman Meyiwa

(Chiefs, 18) Like Ngezana, he may not make it to the final list because he has only featured in 12 league games. Meyiwa, however, has shown great potential.
