Marcus v Delpech, who is the Founding Father?

BiPots and PAs could be the way the way to go today

- By Racing Editor

Following veteran jockeys Anthony Delpech and Anton Marcus should get you through today’s Greyville card having made a profit of note. Both have booked plenty rides with winning chances which makes for a host of great boxed Exactas and Swingers to take. Delpech could strike first blood aboard BiPot banker Sand Path in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1400m on the Polytrack. Dennis Bosch’s charge was subject to greenness on debut, however, once the penny dropped he produced a late surge and was only beaten 1.50 lengths into third by Cossack Guard on the turf. A commendable effort considering he was drawn widest of all in that 1200m contest. He finished that race like he was yearning to go further so should relish the step up in trip today. Unfortunately, the three-year-old gelding is again badly drawn at No 7 in the ninehorse field. Most encouraging, however is, that last form line has worked out exceptionally well – it boasts two follow-up winners. On form, Marcus’s mount Socrates should pose the main danger. He is consistent, tops the best weighted column, is smartly drawn at 2 and has more experience. For Quartets, float the pair with Grand Maestro, Taranaki, Sandcastle and Rourke. Marcus could prove hard to beat when he pilots the ultra-consistent Dark Sienna in Race 3, a FM Maiden Plate over 1400m. She has a good draw at No 4 and on paper should have the beating of this field. Miss Trust could maintain her unbeaten record over the course and distance when she lines up in Race 4, a FM 68 Handicap over 1400m with Delpech aboard. She was a gutsy 0.25-length victor when justifying 1310 favouritism, defeating Breaking Barriers. That form line impressively comprises a follow-up winner, two second and third place finishers. Marcus rides Eden Gardens Glitz who should be given every chance on form, plus she is well drawn at 2 as opposed to Miss Trust’s wide No 10 draw. For Quartets float the pair with as many as your budget allows. Hat-trick hopeful Founding Father could be hard to beat when he reunites with Delpech in Race 6, a MR 88 Handicap over 1400m. This gelding’s course and distance record is inspiring having run five times for three wins and two thirds. If his last 3.50-length victory is any indication, he could prove better than his merit rating of 85.
