‘Ndlovu, Maboe will only be sold to European clubs’

Maritzburg duo enjoy the best form

- By Sihle Ndebele

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids is adamant that his in-form midfield duo of Siphesihle Ndlovu and Lebohang Maboe won’t move to any local club at the end of this season.

Only European offers can sway the club to sell the pair, Davids pointed out.

Maboe and Ndlovu have been the heartbeat of a rejuvenated Maritzburg team this season.

Ndlovu was also rewarded with a Bafana Bafana call-up for a four-nations tournament which they won in Zambia last month.

Maboe has registered six league assists and netted once, while Ndlovu has four goals and three assists in the league.

Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be one of the admirers of the talented pair.

Davids revealed he has discussed with his players and they agreed to stay put until good European offers come through.

“Nobody will leave at the end of the season unless it’s a big European offer but we will not accept any local offer for Maboe, Ndlovu and all these guys who have attracted interest from local clubs,” maintained the 36-year-old coach.

“I have had discussions with them individually and they agreed that they’ll not leave for local clubs. They have ambitions to go to Europe and as a club we will help them get

there.” Despite their 2-1 loss to Bidvest Wits on Tuesday, Maritzburg are among the league’s surprise packages this season. The Team of Choice have accumulated 38 points with five games to spare and are in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup where they will face Sundowns later this month. Davids felt their defeat by Wits humbled them after going five games unbeaten in all competitions. Maritzburg will host Cape Town City at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.
