Injuries ravage Arsenal

Iwobi doubtful for Europa League duel

London – Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi, pictured, has played down injury fears and is hopeful he can regain full fitness for tomorrow’s Europa League semifinal second-leg against Atletico Madrid.

The Nigerian internatio­nal played 90 minutes during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, but coach Arsène Wenger said after the match that Iwobi, 21, building towards next season.

“It has been one of those seasons when around Christmas we were drawing games, late goals against us and, when you look back, you think the season could have been different.” Young’s cross set up the winner as United beat Arsenal at the weekend, continuing a fine season that has put him in the frame for a place in England’s World Cup squad.

“I am nearly 33 now and getting on a bit, but I still have that hunger and desire to go out and play every game,” Young said. – was struggling with a hamstring injury.

“I believe it is very good. I am still being assessed but to me it is good and I will be okay,” Iwobi told Sky Sports. “We will have to wait and see but I believe I will be okay and fit [for Atletico].” Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina (rib) and midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan (knee) are also doubtful for the trip to Madrid after picking up injuries at Old Trafford. Arsenal need a win at Atletico to reach the final after the two teams played out a 1-1 draw last week. –
