Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, a selftaught cook whose pop-up concept Café Tibz sets up station at various entertainm­ent spots, has launched his own bubbly – Atelier. In partnershi­p with Capitec Bank, he organised his first wine show – ShowLove Cap Classique Affair – in Sandton at the weekend.

How would you describe yourself?

I regard myself as a food artist. I like to combine food, wine, art and music in my concepts.

How does the Café Tibz concept work?

It is a pop-up concept that moves around the country showcasing food, wine and art. It has been to Zanzibar already. I plan to take the concept around the world.

How did you come up with the idea of launching your wine?

I was fortunate enough to sit around the table at a function with a couple of interestin­g people a few years ago, when the idea to launch a new bubbly came up. I met the team from Wildekrans winery. I then decided to invest in the idea.

Which is your favourite wine grape?

Chenin blanc. I think chenin blanc is highly underrated as a wine in South Africa. I like it.

What would you enjoy with chenin blanc?

I like to pair it with seafood as well as cooking teriyaki to enjoy it with.

How did you come up with the name Atelier?

Atelier means an artist’s workshop or studio. For me, it means a creative space; any place that you find creative is your atelier.

Where is it available?

Through our website www.ateliermcc.co.za, at various restaurant­s and airport lounges.

Do you export the wine?

Not yet, but we are listening to some offers to import the wine. We are not in a hurry.
