Malope wants more game time

Chiefs midfielder hopes to impress incoming coach

The arrival of a new coach at any club vaguely gives all the players an equal chance to impress.

This is what Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khotso Malope is hoping for in the upcoming campaign under a coach who will succeed Steve Komphela in the hot seat.

“I am a professional, so I must always stay positive,” Malope told Sowetan. “My job is to play football. Next season, I am hoping that I will get more game time compared to this season. I will fight for my place in the team and I am positive I will get my chance.”

He has only featured in five matches in all competitions this season. “I am working on my technical awareness and my acceleration when the team attacks. Thursday May 3 2018

“Being part of a team such as Chiefs is what keeps me going, because it is not everyone who gets this opportunity,” added Malope, a Chiefs academy product who spent time on loan at the now-defunct Thanda Royal Zulu.

The lad from Benoni on the East Rand was one of the influential figures at Thanda, helping them clinch automatic promotion to the top-flight league before Amabhubesi sold their status to AmaZulu.

“The NFD [National First Division] helped me a lot. I adjusted very well in the top flight because of my experience of playing in the NFD.”

Chiefs will wrap up their season away to Ajax Cape Town on May 12.

Amakhosi are expected to unveil their new coach before the start of the new campaign after Komphela resigned with immediate effect following Chiefs’ 2-0 defeat to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semifinals at the Moses Mabhida Stadium a fortnight ago.
