Mashaba ready to find a new home
Ex-Sundowns star undergoing rehab
Mzikayise Mashaba feels that his best years in football are ahead of him after missing the entire season due to injury.
The Tembisa-born ace has beaten the odds and is nearing full recovery from a career altering Achilles injury that has sidelined him for nine months.
After a gruelling rehabilitation programme, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the versatile midfielder.
He should be healthy enough to begin working on his fitness in July – just in time for the PSL pre-season.
“I am very positive that I’ll be back soon, I have been working hard and my recovery is almost done so just watch this space,” Mashaba said.
“In the past I have had injuries but never like this one, it has been a real setback but I have overcome it.”
Injury and being without a club has not changed Mashaba as he still looks in good condition and has not bulged.
“I watch what I eat so I have been disciplined with that, if I was to gain weight it would affect my progress,” he added.
After spending four seasons at Mamelodi Sundowns, the 29-year-old parted ways with the club last October when his contract was terminated.
“I have no beef with anyone and I am not bitter about anything , I had many good memories but now I am looking forward to the future.”
Talking about how life has been for months without football he said: “I have opted to remain out of the limelight and focus on myself.
“I have two kids so it means I have had more time to spend with them.
“I don’t go out much anymore and I no longer have an entourage of friends, only a few friends close to me.”
With the transfer window approaching, Mashaba is ready to find a new home.
“My agent Tim Sukazi has been taking care of my affairs so he is the one who has been talking with clubs.
“But I have not signed with anyone yet so we will see.”
Kaizer Chiefs were earlier in the season reported to be interested in Mashaba.
