Leopards not falling for Jomo mind games
Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono says Black Leopards will be favourites in the PSL promotion play-offs, but Leopards mentor Joel Masutha is not buying the mind games.
Lidoda Duvha beat Ezenkosi 3-0 in their last match of the season, played in Thohoyandou last weekend.
Despite the defeat, Cosmos, who fielded a second string team, finished the season in third and Leopards took second spot to also qualify for the play-offs. They will be joined by a Premiership team that finishes 15th in the play-offs, from next Wednesday.
“We achieved our objectives. They [Leopards] will play first with the team from the Premier League [because Cosmos finished third], so we are happy with that position and that’s where we wanted to go,” reflected Cosmos boss Jomo Sono.
The “Troublemaker” said Leopards are favourites, especially after beating them so convincingly in Limpopo, but has backed Cosmos to be competitive.
“You won’t see the same team [that lost to Leopards] and they know it,” he said.
Cosmos have participated in a few play-offs over the years and they haven’t always been successful, but Sono said he’s not worried about the possibility of failing to win promotion, so there is no pressure on his team.
“It won’t be devastating. If it wasn’t devastating when we got relegated [in the past], it won’t be devastating now. If you fail in life, it’s not the end of the world,” he added.
Meanwhile, Masutha is not concerned about the mind games. He’s focused on ensuring the Limpopo side qualify.
“It’s a second chance for us, because we couldn’t take position one. We have a shot at promotion and it’s a big chance for Black Leopards and Limpopo as a whole,” he said.
“Mind games or no mind games, it’s going to be 11 v 11 on the pitch,” Masutha added. ● Classic
