Crime is running rampant in SA
The rate at which crime is increasing is alarming and a cause for concern.
A lack of morals and education, inequality and a desire for easy money are some of the reasons individuals involve themselves in criminal activities.
Have men truly lost their soul? What compels a man to kill a child or an elderly man or woman?
Some blame it on poverty, anger or rage while others point to greed and selfishness.
This situation must be tackled before it is too late. A multi-pronged approach is needed to arrest crime and violence in our communities.
Such a strategy must include avenues for access to education and job opportunities, and ultimately ways to ensure upward mobility and personal growth and development for individuals, especially the underprivileged.
The public and all stakeholders interested in seeing an end to this madness must take a stand. Enough is enough. Bring back civilisation by speaking out against violent crimes and acts that can later lead to crime and violence.
This will require educating children from a young age to respect the sanctity of life and to obey laws; citizens becoming more responsible and demanding action and answers from their elected representatives; and the police to be responsible when enforcing the laws of the country. Yasmina Sadeck
