Blue Roller a good bet Success lingers in that Arabian Air

- By Racing Editor

The Pick 6 is today’s suggested bet at Kenilworth and it will only cost us R960 for a full permutation.

Race 5, a Juvenile Plate over 1400m, appears a two-horse contest between Arabian Air and One World.

Highly rated Silvano colt Arabian Air makes the most appeal. He was an extremely unlucky loser in his last effort when failing to justify 2-1 favouritism, beaten just a head by talented stable companion Twist Of Fate in the Somerset 1200 (Listed).

“The second horse (Arabian Air) is very special,” admitted trainer Joey Ramsden following the colt’s defeat. “He drifted across the course and I just have to say from Day 1 – the day he came in – I just had my eyes open. We’ll have to make plans for him,” he added passionately.

Based on those comments Arabian Air is clearly above average and his breeding suggests he is begging for the extra 200m. Jumping from an advantageous No 1 draw, the two-year-old should resume winning ways under regular pilot Donovan Dillon.

Vaughan Marshall-trained One World was a well-supported 16-10 favourite on debut and impressively made light work of his rivals to win by an extending three lengths over this course and distance.

“I really didn’t think anything would beat him,” said Marshall, who rates this son of Captain Al highly and made no secret of his plans for the colt.

“I’d like to follow the same route as we did with Tap O’ Noth last year and William Longsword the year before,” he said.

One World’s recent form line has worked out well. It produced one winner and two others who went on to finish second and third from 10 runners.

Ramsden sends out a five-pronged attack in this nine-horse field. For Quartets, take Arabian Air and One World to run first and second with the field for third and fourth place. That will cost R84 and just R8.40 for 10 per cent.

Richard Fourie is riding like a man possessed. Almost 19 per cent of his rides this season have ended up in the winner’s enclosure while he has placed on almost 54 percent of his mounts.

He rode a hat-trick of winners on Saturday and should score aboard Blue Roller, one of the best bets on the card in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1200m.

This Blue Tiger gelding is ultra-consistent having finished second in two career starts.

He has been defeated by very strong runners – Arabian Air last time out and Rainbow Bridge on debut. The latter has won the first two legs of the Winter Series – only strengthening Blue Roller’s case today.

For Swingers and Exactas box Blue Roller with the Justin Snaith-trained Seventh Sea, who is the model of consistency.
