Tokyo to Drift into winner’s enclosure
Buffalo Bill Cody the best bet
Tokyo Drift is most likely to regain winning form when he contest race 5, a MR 80 Handicap over 1450m at the Vaal Classic track today.
On form, the son of Admire Main should reward those who remain faithful to him with a decent payday.
He has some decent recent form, having finished second in two consecutive outings.
Scott Kenny’s charge was unlucky to lose last time out. Jockey Serino Moodley dropped his crop at the 300m marker, putting the six-year-old at a massive disadvantage.
He did, however, produce an eye-catching performance and was only beaten a short head by Danza, who went on to win next time out.
Tokyo Drift has shown a liking for this distance, having run twice over 1450m for a victory and fourth behind Kangaroo Jack.
Those two runs, however, were on the Turffontein Inside track. He is drawn No 8 and will shoulder 59kg – level weights with his main danger, Shogun, who is the model of consistency.
Ormond Ferraris’ charge is far better than his last seventh-place finish suggests and, with Gunter Wrogemann aboard,
should feature prominently.
For Quartets float Tokyo Drift and Shogun with as many horses as your budget
allows.
Mike de Kock-trained Buffalo Bill Cody robbed rivals on the line in his latest effort when coming from absolutely nowhere to win by 0.05 lengths – justifying 1-1 favouritism in a 1200m race. That was only his second start after a lengthy layoff and it suggests he is begging for the extra ground.
He’ll be in peak condition and should relish the step up in trip when he lines up in Race 7, a Progress Plate over 1600m.
This Redoute’s Choice colt has earned himself quite a reputation. After all, he impressively defeated SA Classic winner Lobo’s Legend on debut.
Buffalo Bill Cody appears to be well above average and should have the class to overcome the widest draw of all.
On form he is a worthy banker in all bets.
Apprentice Lyle Hewitson currently leads the National Jockeys’ log and can extend aboard each way prospect Tia in Race 6, a FM 76 Handicap over 1450m for Sean Tarry.
Following four inspiring efforts over sprint trips, Tia finally showed her true ability – running a gutsy race over 1500m to beat Alnasl by 0.30 lengths.
She comes into this race with 56.5kg on her back and will be further aided by an advantageous No 4 draw.
For Swingers and Quartets add in Mike de Kock-trained Penny From Heaven who, although will be returning from a lengthy 254-day layoff, has very encouraging form.
You can put a line through her last performance as she pulled up lame, which probably explains why she was off for so long. If fit she will pose a massive threat.
