A tragic chronicle of women killed by their lovers

On February 1, Precious Mngomezulu, 47, was allegedly killed by her boyfriend Bongani Makhoba in Meadowland­s.

The 47-year-old’s body was found after a week dumped at Dorothy Nyembe Park in Dobsonvill­e. She was found partly charred and covered in maggots, making it difficult for her relatives to identify it.

On April 1, Lesego Lekoko, 19,

● who was a Unisa student, was stabbed and killed by neighbour David Mphandla in Evaton, Vaal. Mphandla’s body was found in his home. He had hanged himself following the attack.

According to neighbours, Mphandla stabbed Lekoko after harassing her, demanding a relationsh­ip.

On May 2, Zolile Khumalo, 22,

● was gunned down, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend, at Mangosuthu University of Technology in KZN. Thabani Mzolo took to Facebook to confess to the crime.

On May 8, Jabulile Nhlapo, 21,

● was shot and killed, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend Lebohang Mokoena. He allegedly entered the Vanderbijl­park student residence where Nhlapo lived. He allegedly shot her and fled the scene.

On May 25, Sheila Mosidi

Kopanye, 33, was stabbed and killed, allegedly by her exboyfrien­d, in Mabopane.

Her death sent shockwaves as comments on social media provided chilling evidence of how she was stalked, and that nobody acted.

On May 27, Maletsatsi

Kutuman-Aasvoel was shot and killed, allegedly by her husband, in front of their three children aged seven, 11 and 12 in their Ebony Park home in Midrand.

The 39-year-old and her husband were going through a divorce and their relationsh­ip was reportedly strained.

Her husband then allegedly held their three children hostage for five hours before fleeing the scene.
