Goalie donates school uniforms

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane’s late mother Florence would be very proud of his charity work through his foundation established five years ago.

This because the same Limpopo school where she used to teach kids, Manchimudi, welcomed Mabokgwane and his foundation as he donated school shoes and jerseys.

Over the past week, he visited three primary schools – Manchimudi, Rametloana and Agisanang – in Moletjie area, northwest of Polokwane.

“I had to contain my emotions,” Mabokgwane told Sowetan about his recent school visits.

“To see the kids with those smiles, it showed what it really meant for them. My late mom and uncle [Jacob Mabasa] used to teach at Manchimudi.”

Born and bred in Moletjie, Mabokgwane could count on his mother for support, and unlike many kids from the rural areas, he didn’t have to walk barefooted to school. But through his foundation, the 30-year-old has been exposed to kids in desperate situations.

“It’s not the first time the foundation visited a school. We went to Ikageleng Makobe Primary in GaMatlala, which is my former school, in 2015.

“We donated football and netball equipment at the time,” added Mabokgwane who is back home enjoying the off-season.

He’s grateful to the people who are working for the foundation.

He also extended gratitude to the Moletjie royal family – under Chief Kgabo Moloto – close friends, his career management stable Professionalz and Pretoria West-based Senatla Panelbeaters, who came on board to make donations.
