Amajita want a win in Malawi
Skipper Kubheka sure SA will qualify
SA Under-20 coach Thabo Senong has called for discipline and concentration from his troops heading into their tomorrow’s all-important second leg of Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Malawi in Blantyre (3pm).
The first leg finished goalless at Moruleng Stadium on July 15. Tomorrow, Amajita have it all to do to book their berth in the next edition of the African Youth Championships to be hosted by Niger from February 24 to March 10 next year.
“The camp is looking good and there are no injuries. We are looking forward to the second leg in Malawi, and you can see that if we keep the discipline, the shape and make sure we don’t concede, then we can win the game,” Senong said before they jetted off yesterday.
“One of the things that let us down in the first leg was lack of concentration. We’ve worked hard to rectify that and I hope that if we are focused, we are going to win.”
Amajita captain Khulekani Kubheka was optimistic they would register a favourable result in Malawi. The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper said this match carried the same weight as a cup final.
“Everybody knows how important this match is. We all want to play in Afcon next year. For both countries this game is like a cup final. We are carrying the hopes of SA and we want to make the country proud,” noted Kubheka.
“In the first leg we didn’t play the way we would have loved to, but we have since analysed our mistakes and our individual contributions. We are going to win this match and qualify for Afcon. We have no injuries, so there are no excuses.” Tembo, meanwhile, has explained why the club signed just three players despite fighting relegation last season. Goalkeeper Washington Arubi, defender Luke Fleurs and striker James Keene are the new additions. “We’ve only had a couple of additions, because we believe in the squad we have,” Tembo said. “We believe that we have a very balanced team,” he added.
